FIRST TEST FOR CLIPPERS

Talk about a primetime exhibition.
When the Clippers tip-off on Monday, Dec. 19 against the host Lakers, the atmosphere inside Staples Center will be unlike any preseason game in recent memory.

It’s the first NBA game at the arena in nearly seven months. It’s the opening matchup of the so-called “Hallway Rivalry” between the Clippers and their city-mates. And, most noticeably, it marks the in-arena debut of Chris Paul in Los Angeles…as a Clipper.

The saga of the Paul trade reads much like a soap opera, a 10-day escape that ultimately delivered the point guard to the Clippers.

Paul, Chauncey Billups, and Caron Butler will play their first game with the Clippers, only three days after taking the court together for the first time.
“What you have to do is not try too hard to force it,” Billups said. “You’ve got to go out and you’ve got to compete and people start to respect each other for different reasons, different approaches to the game. It just kind of comes together. You can’t force that.”

That’s probably the most noticeable thing to watch for on Monday: how the trio of new Clippers mesh with the rest of the team.

“It’s not just about how it’s going to work with us [Billups and Paul],” Paul said. “But how it’s going to work as a whole.”

Billups will start at the shooting guard spot and while he insists that Clippers Head Coach Vinny Del Negro is effectively starting two point guards, it’s no secret that Billups will have to guard opposing teams’ bigger backcourt player. On Monday, the 15-year veteran will be tested against the indomitable Kobe Bryant.

But as Paul indicated, it’s not just about how he and Billups will handle their responsibilities. There are several other questions chemistry-wise in the starting five.

How will Butler, who was second among Dallas players last season in usage rate, according to Hoopdata.com, fit in as the third or fourth option on offense? Or how will Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan match-up with the length of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, a group that gave the Clippers trouble in their four games against the Lakers last season?

Obviously, it’s a preseason game. But there is a heightened sense of urgency with the regular season opener just a week away (Dec. 25 at Golden State). Del Negro is looking to balance getting starters court time together and regulating their minutes.

“I want to first see how some of the guys feel,” Del Negro said. “You know, Chauncey and Chris are just getting back in the flow of things. I want to talk to Caron a little bit. He hasn’t missed any training camp. it is our first preseason game, we only have a couple.

But I also know it’s very important to have some really good practices at the middle to the end of the week after those preseason games. I want to be smart about it.”

NBA's Back

NBA is definitely back..the smack talk has already begun, Laker Fans are already whining--the countdown for Kobe chasing Mike Brown out of town begins....NOW!! Knick Fans again think this year is their year(hasn't been their year since '73); Celtics are complaining about shortened training camp for their old veterans(BENGAY, Icy Hot and some Class is what I recommend) The Big 3 or The big time Chokers have another year of LeBron acting like he's the king of the court (with out a ring) and will the Defending Champs Be Ready to Defend their Crown..

Clippers

High-Flying Blake Griffin with lobs coming from CP3!
On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

The Los Angeles Clippers have acquired guard Chris Paul in a trade with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets. The Clippers will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul. The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks.

By trading for Chris Paul, the Los Angeles Clippers have changed the perception of the franchise. They're no longer the Clippers, writes ESPN.com's J.A. Adande.

Which side won the Chris Paul trade? Did the Hornets get enough from the Clippers? The 5-on-5 panel takes a closer look. The Clippers' deal for Chris Paul never would have happened if not for their prized superstar, Blake Griffin, writes ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne.

Paul tweeted a goodbye to New Orleans.

"THANK YOU NEW ORLEANS for 6 of the BEST years of my life," an entry on his Twitter account read. "To the organization, my teammates, coaches, and the fans you will always be my family and have a special place in my heart!!!"

The deal required the approval of NBA commissioner David Stern. The move puts an end to a tortured week in which the Hornets' season sat in limbo while the NBA took a public relations beating over everything from potential conflicts of interest, to stunting the Hornets' pursuit of free agents, to disrespecting the New Orleans fan base.

"I knew we were doing the best thing for New Orleans and that was my job," Stern said. "You have to stick with what you think was right. I must confess it wasn't a lot of fun, but I don't get paid to have fun."

Prayers

We want to wish the former top-5 overall pick Jeff Green a successful heart surgery.

Vanessa Benches Kobe....

All marriages have their ups and downs, but the 10-year union of Vanessa and Kobe Bryant was certainly unlike any other.

They got engaged in 2000, when she was 18 and still a senior in high school. He ascended to the top of the NBA and was a three-time champion before the news of his affair in a Colorado hotel room and the ensuing sexual assualt charges surfaced.
Vanessa stood by her husband -- getting a $4 million ring for her loyalty -- but that could only last so long, as she filed for divorce this week.

Will this divorce cause more issues for the Lakers this season?? Kobe is very emotional...too bad he didn't keep his other body parts to himself..
